A bouffon rumpus through a land ravaged by plague and poverty, where celebrity worship and obedient consumerism are the whole of the law. Dark myth and TV culture collide in a savage romp indicting snivelling wretches in filth and squalor clamouring to be the tenth lucky caller. Rapscallions and roustabouts peering out of shadows hoping for a glimpse of fairytale princesses or adorned idols.

It’s the night of the big ball, and the Ratcatcher wasn’t invited. Were you?

The Ratcatcher Distracted from Paying His Taxes
is a black pantomime splatter opera written and performed by celebrated slam poet Ali Maloney (aka Harlequinade). The StAnza Slam Champion 2010, Ali has performed extensively in a variety of contexts, from Scotland’s International Slam team to this year’s T In The Park with his band CHURCH OF WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN. His Lovecraftian clown rap apocalypse, HYDRONOMICON, was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe 2011.

Praise for HYDRONOMICON:

“the intensity is astonishing… the performance is immaculate” EdFringeReview

“imprints its nightmarish vision on the very core of your imagination” The Scotsman

“appealingly different, defiant and slick” Three Weeks
