I haven’t always been alone. I must have been with someone. Maybe even inside someone, since I have a navel in the middle of my belly visible to the naked eye.
Backbone and Navel #3 is direct image theatre inspired by feminist philosopher Helene Cixous, which reimagines and re-presents her ideas, tapping into a resurgence of debate about what it means to be a woman today. Cixous’ writing on Genesis and the fall of Eve forms the backdrop to this exploration of our cultural ecology: of forests, heroes and the female body.
Intimate, honest, and unflinching, the show attempts to reclaim the female identity.
