Everyone feels like a stranger sometimes – when travelling somewhere new, returning home, or confronting solitude. Some feel estranged in close intimacy; others find connection through anonymity. Traditionally, song has transformed these subjective feelings into universal experience. In this work, song itself becomes a subject of exploration.

In Songs for a Stranger, sound artist and vocalist Nichola Scrutton and vocalist Céline Hänni improvise with fragments of text and extended techniques to create a series of atmospheric states in an electroacoustic sound world.
