Inspired by the ‘action art’ of artists such as Jamie McMurry and Julie Andrée T., Gelatin (Solo) explores the edges of the body, playing on the fear which penetrates the surface of our skin and the animal instincts which are expelled as a reponse.

As an artist, Thomas draws the greatest inspiration from the often obscure, often useful/useless objects in his life. He explores trajectories of meaning that grow holistically from an object’s form and function and crafts poetic actions and images from what he finds there.

“It’s visual haiku: your own mind will deliver details of wasted lives, destruction, brutality… in response to McCulloch’s pungent provocations.”
