Rising stars of the UK dance music scene, London duo Dusky bring their showcase to Glasgow in December for a full-on night taking in deep house, techno, and myriad hybrid sounds.
London based producers Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman make house music that’s inseparable from the genre’s tradition but comes with a widescreen ambition and a distinct UK underground edge. Both classic and contemporary, Dusky’s sound is influenced by everything from deep Detroit techno and bumping UK garage to classical and avant-garde electronica.
Their diverse 2011 album Stick By This was celebrated by Pete Tong as one of the albums of the year. Hot Chip wasted no time in commissioning them to transform their ‘Night & Day‘ single into a modern garage bomb. At the same time, darker excursions into warehouse techno like ‘Calling Me‘ and ‘Muriel‘ have been hammered by Paul Woolford, Maya Jane Coles, and countless others.
Having recently launched their brand new label 17 Steps, Dusky now embark on The Next Step – a 30-date-plus tour across autumn and winter, compromised almost exclusively of extended 4-hour sets. With their own productions regularly championed by DJs such as Loefah, Boddika, Skream and Sasha, their exclusive 4-hour set at The Arches will no doubt include classic singles ‘Flo Jam,’ ‘Nobody Else’ and ‘Rise For Love,’ ‘Love Taking Over’ and their latest single, ‘Yoohoo.’
They will be joined by some top quality guests on the night – Dutch house and techno sensation and Voyage Direct founder Tom Trago, Funkinevil (aka Detroit’s Kyle Hall and London’s Funkineven), Leeds-based producer Youandewan and Berlin’s Palms Trax. This promises to be one of the nights of the year – take the Next Step with Dusky and friends at The Arches on Friday 5 December.

As Scotland’s original superclub, the Arches is the stuff of clubbing legend. There really is no other venue like it in the world.
Repeatedly voted one of the top 100 clubs in the world in DJ magazine, the industrial brick arches are home to a continuous roster of the world’s most in demand DJs and producers from across the dance spectrum, whether it be minimal techno, big bassline electro, hardstyle, deep house, UK bass, dubstep or trance.
With a Funktion 1 soundsystem and three fully stocked bars spread over six subterranean arches, the space is transformed each weekend depending on the faces behind the decks. From huge, sell out nights with platinum selling Ibiza trendsetters such as Alesso and Laidback Luke or legendary acts such as Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox and Jeff Mills, to the hottest, most-hyped names on the dance scene’s lips – from Jamie Jones and Nina Kraviz to Jackmaster and Omar S, ours is one of the most diverse club programmes in the city.
As well as the Arches’ own club nights, which have recently brought the likes of Hot Creations label, Madeon and Chase & Status to the venue, for many fans the Arches is synonymous with either of its two biggest nights, Pressure and Colours.
Slam have now been playing and promoting in the Arches since 1992 with their monthly techno and house night Pressure celebrating it’s 16th anniversary in November 2014. Normally taking place on the last Friday of the month, Pressure sees the biggest names in the game playing regularly, with guests like Richie Hawtin, Ben Klock, Laurent Garnier, Joris Voorn, Maya Jane Coles, Pan-Pot, Chris Liebing, Dave Clarke, Len Faki, Dubfire, Gary Beck, Visonquest, Heidi, Vitalic and Green Velvet joining resident DJs Slam in recent times.
Scotland’s biggest dance promoter, Colours regularly bring the biggest and best names in big room house, tech-house, electro and trance to the venue, with recent guests including Alesso, Otto Knows, Laidback Luke, Dannic, Hardwell, Markus Schulz, Showtek, Gareth Emery, Nervo, AN21 & Max Vangeli, Nicky Romero and many more.
