The Arches has announced that it will take two shows to the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August.
The shows, May I have the Pleasure and The Pleasure of Being, are by the Arches’ Resident Artist Adrian Howells with May I Have the Pleasure…? a part of the Traverse Theatre’s festival offsite programme.
In May I Have The Pleasure…? (Traverse @ The Point Hotel from 17th-19th, 21st-24th, 27th -28th August with previews on 15th – 16th August), join Adrian at the last dance of yet another wedding disco in this new interactive performance, which uses humorous, poignant, autobiographical anecdote, original home movie footage and collective reminiscing to contemplate the irony of feeling isolated in the midst of a communal celebration of ‘coupledom’.
In The Pleasure of Being: Washing, Feeding, Holding (The Point Hotel on 19th and 21st – 28th August 2011) invites you to surrender to an intensely intimate, deeply sensorial and profoundly nurturing one-on-one experience as Adrian bathes your whole body (participants can choose to be either naked or wear their own bathing suit) in a luxurious bath consisting of bath milk, rose petals and essential oils before wrapping you in a large and comforting white fluffy bath towel. Adrian then cradles you in his arms, feeds you white Belgian chocolate and holds you for a prolonged period. The predominantly non verbal experience invites you to make a profound connection with both him and yourself and to enjoy a qualitative period of self investment away from the stresses of everyday life.
