BEHAVIOUR Festival 2012 performance BEATS by writer, director and performer Kieran Hurley, winner of the Arches Platform 18 Award, has been nominated for two Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) for Best Music & Sound (Johnny Whoop) and Best New Play.
Featuring a live soundtrack from Arches resident Johnny Whoop and psychedelic 90s-inspired visuals from VJ Jamie Wardrop, BEATS tells the story of Johnno McCreadie, a teenager living in a small suburban Scottish town at the time of the 1994 Criminal Justice Act – a new piece of legislation which effectively outlawed raves, or “public gatherings around amplified music characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats”.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony hosted by Alan Cummings which will take place at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow on Sunday 10th June. For more information and to see the full list of nominees visit http://www.criticsawards.theatrescotland.com/
