To be Continued: 2005

2005 has been as frenetic as any other year and very productive.

Arches Theatre Company produced Beckett 2: The Basement Tapes - a promenade production featuring Beckett’s plays Rockaby and Krapp’s Last Tape and unearthing basement corridors as performance spaces for the first time. The production was short listed for The Critics Awards Scotland under Best Director and Best Technical Presentation.

"Mesmerising…wonderfully decrepit…a haunting production that dares to hang meaning on to the ultimate nothingness. ****" - The Herald

This production was followed closely by I Confess - a totally unique production in collaboration with RSAMD where an audience of twenty were individually confessed to by twenty confessors - again, down dark corridors, locked behind doors, in recesses, and other intimidating environments.

"I Confess is as emotionally pummelling as it is theatrically unique." - The Guardian

Arches Theatre Festival 2005 featured the two Arches Award productions for Stage Directors - one by Skye Lonegeran - A Little Laugh I Lost Somewhere - the other by Davey Anderson. Anderson’s piece, Snuff, is now to be re-staged at the Traverse in Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Festival fringe. Other Arches Festival shows included work by Derevo, Laboratorium 33, Sean Tuan John, Univited Guests, Rotozaza, and Kali Theatre.

Other visiting theatre so far has included work by Vox Motus, Wayward, Birds of Paradise, and Miren Theatre.

There’s been the usual full on club programme - Pressure, Insideout, and Colours, now added to by other regulars like Burly, Mekanik, and The Arches own nights - The Funk Room, and Death Disco. Concerts have featured Aberfeldy, Roots Manuva, The Waifs, Nitin Sawhney, E.S.T., The Magic Band, The Herbaliser, and many more…oh and a few other festivals to date - Celtic Connections, National Review of Live Art, Glasgow Comedy Festival, and Shakespeare in the City...and we’re not half way through the year yet!
