Arches LIVE 2012: Call for proposals

Arches LIVE 2012: Call for proposals

Deadline: Fri 4th May 2012

Fri 4 May 2012

Arches LIVE is the Arches’ annual two-week festival of risk-taking live performance. Offering a supportive platform for a range of emergent and experimental artists – from playwrights, theatre-makers and choreographers to visual artists, film-makers and sound artists – our aim is for the building to become a meeting point, a site of debate and a free space for the exploration of new ideas.

Previous successful applicants to Arches LIVE, such as Gary Gardiner and Kieran Hurley, have gone on to win The Arches new work award, Platform 18, where work is supported and staged during the acclaimed Behaviour festival of live performance. You can see their work alongside some of the best national and international contemporary performance makers at Behaviour 2012.

We are currently seeking proposals for work to be considered for this year’s Arches LIVE festival, which takes place in September. Artists from all performance disciplines are welcome to apply and we particularly encourage submissions in multi-disciplinary work. The only stipulation is that the work is new and developed specifically for Arches LIVE.
The Arches will provide the following:

• Free rehearsal space/development time in our basement and studio spaces on a first-come-first-served basis
• Mentoring and practical support from the Arches’ technical, press, marketing and design teams
• Presentation of a final production for up to 3 nights from the 17th-30th September 2012

Unfortunately the Arches cannot provide production budgets; however, we are happy for applicants to seek external funding.

Please send a detailed proposal outlining your project. Applicants should include the following information as well as any relevant images or video clips:

- An overall summary of the piece
- The names of the artists and creators, including CVs of those involved
- Stage requirements
- An idea of where in the building you would like to present the work (for those familiar with the different spaces at the Arches)
- Approximate running times
- Approximate lighting and sound requirements
- Get-in time required
Companies will also be required to attend an Arches LIVE Meet & Greet day on Friday 29th June between 3-6pm. Please confirm your availability in your email.

All submissions should be sent to by Friday 4th May at 5pm or posted to Louise Irwin, The Arches, 253 Argyle Street, Glasgow G2 8DL.
