Are you living in a rented property and keen to make the place your own? If you’re unable to make permanent changes to the space, have no fear – there are plenty of ways to make a house your home without long-lasting effects.

Here are seven non-permanent ways to decorate your rental and create the home of your dreams!

Use soft furnishings

Using soft furnishings is a great way to make your space feel homely. Think soft cushions, throws, rugs, bedspreads and table linens. Choose pieces that match the look you’re going for – whether that’s rustic farmhouse, modern or industrial.

Use command strips

If you can’t drill into the wall or use nails, you could try using command strips instead. They are essentially strong adhesive hooks that can be used on various surfaces – without causing any damage to the wall! Use them to hang pictures, artwork or wall clocks throughout your space.

Use non-fitted furniture

Do you love the look of fitted furniture in living rooms? Then choose a freestanding piece with shelving where you can display photos, vases and other ornaments. If you flush it to both walls, it will give the illusion of being fitted without being fastened to the wall!

Use plants and flowers

Another great way to decorate your space is to use a range of beautiful plants and flowers. Not only do they look great – but improve the quality of the air in your home too! You could use a variety of succulents, snake plants, spider plants and orchids.

Use vinyl stickers

Vinyl stickers are an effective way to give your home a fresh, updated look without making permanent changes. They can be used on your kitchen splashback, flooring or bathroom tiles to give them a new lease of life. Plus, they are super easy to apply!

Use clever covers

You could also make use of chic covers in areas that you feel look a little outdated or aren’t to your taste. For example, if your place comes with a sofa but it’s not what you’d choose, you could get a beautiful cover to pop over it to make it feel like your own and match the rest of your décor.

Use colour

You can bring life into your space through colour – and that doesn’t mean painting the walls! You can inject colour through your cushions, curtains, kitchen appliances, towels, and more!

Of course, before doing any work to the place, make sure you check your contract and speak to your landlord or letting agent to get the go-ahead. Happy decorating!
