Lows? What lows? We don’t really have any complaints with this large, nicely-priced Samsung RS50N3513WW/EU. Well, there may be one niggle that’s not to everyone’s taste. As fantastic as the water and ice dispenser is, it does require plumbing upon installation. This raises the price tag slightly, but hey, it’s no biggie when you consider the model’s affordability. Plus – not really a low – but if you’re looking for an integrated model this freestanding Samsung may not for you.

2. Russell Hobbs RH90FF176SS-WD

In the previous review I highlighted the spaciousness of the Samsung fridge freezer. Well, this freestanding side-by-side (which resembles a two-door cupboard with one door larger than the other) Russell Hobbs RH90FF176SS-WD is even roomier. While the Samsung held around 27 bags of shopping this beast can accommodate around 29 bags, with its 513 litre capacity. Yet with a standard width of 89.5cm, it’s not as wide.

It’s not as wide but it’s just as sleek, if not more, with its gorgeous stainless steel finish. Another cool feature is its Frost Free technology. In fact, you’ll never have to manually defrost again. With cool air constantly circulating inside, it cleverly prevents any icy build-ups. It’s an excellent energy saver too – annual energy bills cost around £60. Plus it comes in at around £800. Ka-ching!

Unlike the Samsung, this model’s water dispenser doesn’t need plumbing either, so it can take pride of place anywhere in your kitchen for refreshing drinks on tap. Plus there’s an adjustable thermostat giving you the utmost convenience to ensure your food is as fresh as possible.

The freezer section is also frost free, so don’t worry about continually opening and closing it. Got uneven floors? The Russell Hobbs fridge freezer will straighten things out with its adjustable feet, so you can ensure your appliance is correctly balanced when installed.

The lows:

To be honest, there are not too many negatives with this fridge freezer – especially when you consider the price tag. However, some reviewers have stated that the door material could be a bit less flimsy – it can dent quite easily. And Hisense aren’t kidding around with this feature – there’s an additional child lock for added peace of mind.

So no more taking food out to check if it’s past its sell-by date. The electronic LED lighting is brighter than standard incandescent bulbs, and they’re more energy efficient too. Saving you even more cash on top of the modestly priced (less than £700) model.

If you’ve always wanted an American style fridge freezer but considered them too expensive this Hisense is a great model to start with. And it’s not just its stunning exterior and large interior that’ll impress. Yes, this flexible multi-door American fridge freezer’s 431 litre capacity can accommodate a large family and then some. Perfect.

The lows:

Is it a cop out to say – for the price – that this fridge freezer is faultless? The only negative we could find is more a positive for most buyers – with a width of 79.4cm, it’s very narrow. The only other (tiny) gripe is the spacing between the shelves is not as high as in other models we’ve reviewed.

Firstly, it’s a bit of a mouthful saying this one, but it’s worth every word. The ‘Leisure Patricia Urquiola PAS241MB American Fridge Freezer’ has been designed by Leisure in collaboration with one of Europe’s leading furniture designers – Patricia Urquiola.
Together, they have created an array of kitchen appliances that offer the very best in performance, innovation and design.

Let’s simply call the fridge freezer ‘the Leisure’ for sake of saving words. The Leisure is a fusion of style and functionality. And with an overall 544 litre capacity (that’s over 30 bags of food shopping. Thirty!) it’s a beast of an appliance. Like most of our other fridge freezers it’s frost free, meaning no more manual defrosting it, as cold air is constantly circulating inside to prevent icy build-ups.

The Leisure offers a standard width of 91cm, which is about the norm. But what makes it a little different is the nifty little minibar door on the front, which gives you easy access to your favourite drinks – perfect for quick access to your favourite tipple, and party nights.

You want fresher, crisper greens? Then the Salad Crisper Drawer will meet your needs. Actually, the Leisure will meet all of your fridge freezer-type needs. From its ingenious Dual Cooling System to adjustable feet to LED lighting to a secure wine rack and already-plumbed ice and water dispenser – it has everything our other reviewed models have and more. The magnetic doors are pretty smart too – the closing sensation feels a little like the magnetic doors on an expensive car. They feel strong and sturdy, because they are. Better still, it costs less than £900.

OK, we’ve already stated that the Leisure comprises all the features you need and more. The one thing we can’t stress enough though is the vast capacity of this fridge freezer – and this comes up time and time again from individual reviewers. It’s interior (fridge is 368 litres and freezer is 176 litres) is massive. At 544 litres in total it boasts the largest capacity of all fridge freezers we’ve reviewed here.

The highs:

For an American fridge freezer that’s got the lot and boasts an enormous 544 litre capacity, the Leisure is very modestly priced at under £900. It oozes elegance and sophistication too – thanks to teaming up with Europe’s leading furniture designers, Patricia Urquiola. It’s well lit by the LED lighting and we loved the minibar door and if you’ve a kitchen with a slightly darker colour-scheme you’ll really bring it to life with this stylish yet sturdy jet black appliance.

The lows:

Once again, finding flaws in some of the best American fridge freezers on the market at the moment is a tough task. So what can we say other than black may not be to everyone’s taste and may be too much of a contrast in a gleaming white kitchen. Also, we’re clutching at straws here, is that the hatch for the minibar needs a little bit of force to open – but then it does feel solid and sturdy.

It has everything you need from an elegant, beautifully contoured fridge freezer. And I mean everything. But then, with its £1,500+ price tag, what less would you expect? So does it deserve the extra dosh? Let’s take a closer look…

As you’d expect, it’s got bags of space inside – but forget bags, with a gross capacity of 520 litres you’ll fit close to three full shopping trolleys in this giant. That’s 396 litres of capacity in the fridge and 124 litres in the freezer.

Plus your food stays fresher for longer with the clever Twin Cooling tech – which cools the fridge and freezer cavities separately. Thus ensuring the perfect temperature and humidity throughout. What’s more, the CoolSelect Pantry allows you to choose 0° for fresh meat and fish, 3° for deli-type items like ham, salami, chicken slices and cheese, or a slightly warmer, but well-considered, 5° for fruit and vegetables.

For this price you’d expect the water and ice dispenser that already be plumbed in – which of course it is. That means cold water and ice at the touch of a button. OK, so it’s on the pricier side. But it’s worth it right down the freezer on the bottom – which keeps food well organised. It’s carefully considered contouring makes it look stylish and sophisticated. The water and ice dispensers are easily selected to use and the added bonus of fitting larger glasses and jugs are a real plus. We love the design of this fridge freezer, with all the fridge space at eye level – and again, it’s well lit throughout. It’s also very easy to keep clean and very quiet. Both freezer and fridge compartments complement each other perfectly. What more do you want from an American style fridge that family and friends will look at and simply say, wow.

The lows:

We’d like to say the price – but honestly this appliance is worth every single penny. While the water dispenser is already plumbed and very easy on the eye, it could do with a slightly larger splash dish, which tends to overspill if you’re not too careful.
